Norbert Cyrus, Ph.D.

Norbert Cyrus studied Social and Cultural Anthropology, Sociology and Philosophy. He received his Ph.D. 2008 from Carl-von-Ossietzky-University for his analysis of contemporary processes of labour migration from Poland to Germany. After employments at the University Oldenburg, Hamburg Institute for Social Research (HIS) and the University Bremen, he has been senior researcher at the European University Viadrina since 2017. He worked as expert for International Organisations (ILO, Worldbank) and national institutions (e.g. Federal Ministry for Labour, Federal Expert Commission for Migration) and civil organisations (e.g. Diakonie Hamburg, German Trade Union DGB). His research topics include temporary labour migration, civic participation of immigrants and measures against trafficking in human beings.
